Whois Privacy Protection, occasionally also called WHOIS or Whois Privacy Protection, is a service that hides the genuine contact info of domain owners on WHOIS web sites. Without this service, the name, street address and email of any domain name registrant will be freely visible. Supplying false information during the registration procedure or altering the real details later will just not work, as doing such a thing may result in the domain registrant losing his/her domain ownership rights. The policies adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), require that the WHOIS details must be valid and up to date at all times. The Whois Privacy Protection service was introduced by domain name registrars as a response to the increasing concerns for potential identity fraud. If the service is enabled, the registrar company’s contact information will be displayed instead of the registrant’s upon a WHOIS lookup. Most domain names support the Whois Privacy Protection service, even though there are some country-code extensions that do not.

Whois Privacy Protection in Website Hosting

If you get a website hosting plan from us, you will be able to enable Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domain names provided that their extensions support this option. You can register/transfer a domain name and enable Whois Privacy Protection upon registration or you can activate the service for any of your domain names at any time later through the Hepsia hosting Control Panel. The procedure is unbelievably easy – after you sign in, you will have to visit the Registered Domains section where you will notice a list of all the domains that you have registered with us. For each one of them you’ll see an “Whois Privacy Protection” sign, which will inform you if the service is enabled or not. By clicking it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain, or you can disable the service if it is currently active.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Activating Whois Privacy Protection for any domain is amazingly easy if you’ve got a semi-dedicated server. As long as the domain is registered with our company, it will be displayed in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel that is included with every semi-dedicated server package. If a given generic or country-code domain name supports Whois Privacy Protection, you will notice a small button on the right-hand side of that domain. To enable the Whois Privacy Protection service, you will need to click on it. In the same way, you can also renew or deactivate the service. You can activate Whois Privacy Protection for a domain upon signup too, but since the service is optional, we’ll give you the possibility to add it to any of your domain names later if you change your mind and choose to conceal your personal information from the general public after you’ve already created the semi-dedicated account.
